Hi guys and congrats to all who passed the exam.

I had interview with one of the accounting firms and got rejected yesterday.

I killed myself for the interview, and worked really really hard.

It really really hurts me a lot even though it had been almost a day since I heard the news, and I am so disappointed and upset about this. I don’t know how to handle this situation…

Guys I would really appreciate a lot if you can give me an advice on how I can handle this situation and share experiences on how you guys went through it. Thanks!

It'll be ok. It is a confidence destroyer, but it doesn't mean that you aren't smart. Are there any other jobs you applied to? Do you have any other interviews coming up? Where one door closes, another one opens. If you feel that your interview skills aren't the greatest, maybe you can do mock interviews with family, friends, or there even maybe a class you can take. People will definitely help you with that.

We can do this. It is a difficult journey, but it'll feel wonderful once we are done. Then at that time, we'll reap in all the benefits.

You can't take it personally. With dozens of people vying for every single position, you can be a fabulous candidate but they just preferred another person for a minuscule reason.

I've been very unhappy at my job for a year and applied to over 100 jobs without a single offer. Last Friday my boss fired me (for a reason unrelated to my performance) and I had an offer today making more than I was. I start tomorrow morning.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

I'm sorry to hear that! I completely understand how you feel!! Two years ago I wanted to work at this firm so bad. That I spent two years building a relationship with them. I was invited to dinners when the firm came into town to visit and to baseball games and I thought for sure they liked me and I would get a job. Well I found out the next day after my interview that I didn't get the job and I was crushed. The job I have now kinda found me. I had a friend that worked there and was talking to him at my school's meet the firms and gave him my resume and the managing partner asked about me and fast forward two weeks later and I got a great job offer from them. And I'm so glad I took it and didn't get the other one. So you just got to keep your head up and keep applying. I know it's hard and it makes you feel like crap, but trust me you will find something. And when you do it will be perfect!

oslife: I know the feeling but like others said – “it's not you, it's them” 😉 You are probably better off somewhere else, just keep applying!

I had 10 interviews in Fall 2010, 9 interviews in Spring 2011 and only 1 job offer…..but it all turned out for the better… I was able to study for the CPA exam and buy a house, which might have not happened otherwise…..

    Maybe it is you? LOL,

I got shot down all over the place; decided to retool and work with some CPA friends on interview questions, resume polishing, etc and ended up with some Big4 offers.

(oh end to TK's point, it can work out better, getting shot down by little firms eventually led me towards where I wanted to be)
