How will future employer respond to GPA drop?

I’ll try to make this short…

Had a 3.2 when I got my internship with a public acct firm, they offered me after, I accepted.

Last 3 semesters of college were not pleasant…grades fell. Reason? I was flat broke, so had to work 25-30+ hours a week at various jobs (large nonprofit, fortune 500 intern) in order to pay for bills and have money for food, also working full time this summer at a large software company.

    On a cumulative basis I’m still over a 3.0…barely.

Accounting GPA might have dropped from a 3.6 down to a 3.1-3.2…and these are due to poor grades in upper level accounting.

I’m currently studying for the CPA and take Audit next month (if this is relevant at all). Already have 150 hours.

I’m a bit worried of what my employer will think if they 1. request transcripts, 2. view said transcripts.

Any advice on how what to expect/how to handle this?

    This wasn’t short…

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You had a 3.2 when you had your internship and you still have over a 3.0 overall. I asked many people when I was interviewing on what their GPA was when they accepted a position. They told me as soon as they accepted a position some of the peoples GPA's dove down fast. They mentioned that all the Big 4 care about after giving you an offer is that you pass all your classes, get your degree, 150 hours, and CPA eventually.

REG: PASS || BEC: PASS || AUD: PASS || F: SCORE PENDING..

I don't think they'll care at all. If its one of the Big 4 they might though.

Yeah, it really doesn't matter. It sounds like you have very good experience already, so that will definitely be weighed heavier than your GPA. I graduated with with a 3.8, had no life during college, always working or studying..and now I question whether or not it actually made a difference in my job search. I can interview well and I did like 4 internships as an undergrad.

Probably won't have much effect. You have to taken into consideration the amount of time that goes into recruiting. While public accounting firms look for candidates with high GPA, I don't think they will rescind your offer because you went from a 3.6 to 3.2. Now if you started getting Cs or failing, then I would be worried. My GPA went from 3.75 to 3.5 because I was working 6AM to 3PM 4 days a week and they didn't say anything.

    Journey begins in July 2012.

    FAR - 87 (8/7/2012)
    REG - 89 (11/19/2012)
    AUD - 95 (1/17/2013)
    BEC - 81 (2/26/2013)

These days employers are perfectionists. If you're not perfect, you deserve to starve.

I disagree with this viewpoint, but what can be done about this horrible job market?

As long as you have the offer under your belt, you're fine – just don't fail any courses as not graduating on time would easily give them a good reason to get you 86'd. If they do inquire about your drop in coursework (doubtful), tell them the truth.

@lookin4fraud: Congrats. Once you get in, the best way to impress is to rock at work. If your boss has no complaints about you, you're OK.

    Thanks everyone.

I'll just have to wait and see what happens. If they ask me about my situation, then I'll be honest and tell them what my situation was.
