How to tell a big 4 that I need to speed things up – expecting another offer ?

    Hi,

I’m getting ahead of myself here … and i’m sorry if i’m asking too many questions. but I have been communicating with deloitte office # 1 and after a while I did not meet one of the requirements for a specific opening … the recruiter told me that office# 2 needs an employee and that the recruiter from office # 2 would love to talk to me about the opening … so i thanked the first recruiter and emailed my resume to the other one.

I am flying next week for a set of interviews with a different employer … it has been two business days and the lady from office # 2 did not contact me … I would happily give her time, but hopefully if i do well in the interviews next week i might be getting an offer, I dont know how much time i can buy after i get the offer.

I know the big four usually take their time !

What would u recommend me do ? tell the recruiter to speed things up or wait until i get an offer ? coz at the end of the day i have nothing in my hands …

is there any nice way of doing that ?

    Here's what I think:

Last week was a short week and I know a lot of people in my office were on vacation so it's possible the recruiter you're hoping to hear from extended their vacation past the holiday. Also, not everyone remembers to turn on their out of office message so the fact that you didn't get one doesn't mean that the recruiter is in the office this week. (and not everyone answers work emails when their out of the office)

Sorry, you cannot tell the big 4 to hurry up. If you haven't received a response within a week, the polite thing to do would be to email your resume again with an extremely polite “I apologize if you've received this twice. I had computer issues and wasn't sure my email sent properly last week….” at which point the recruiter may respond that they did in fact receive your email. (or not if they're out of the office) You want to be remembered as someone who will be an asset to the firm, not because you're pushy.

Check your email at minimum once a day. Who knows? They may respond while you're out of town at your other interview. This way you can respond timely if they do respond.

If you still don't hear anything and get a job offer from this other place, I'd consider taking it if it will be a good fit for your personality and your family situation.

    Best of luck!

    I passed in 2012!

I would not say I had another offer until I had pen in hand signing an offer letter. There is no chance that will prompt them to fast track you.

    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!

Rebecca_AZ… Many thanks for your help 🙂 . Yes seems like she was super busy ! i actually replied to her email regarding an interview tomorrow – she did not reply to confirm a specific time !

ur right mla1169 … I guess i will just be mentioning in the interview if they asked me that i am flying the next day to another interview – hoping that it will be considered a serious activity.

I'll post a another question for a phone interview tips ! 🙂 . I'll add some of the tips i got from a different thread as well 🙂 .

You can definitely push the Big 4, but you may not get the result that you may have in mind. Something along the lines of “I've received another offer to work in XX, however, I feel that working with your firm may be a better fit for my goals…”. Something to that effect anyway. This way is professional, and puts them on the table to respond, but is not pushy in a way that gives you bad attention. It just forces them to make a decision on whether to move forward with you soon or not.

Given what I said, you may push them when they aren't looking to actively hire someone so soon. Unless you are a stellar candidate (and they feel they must have you and then interview you very soon), they may simply take their time and go on about their business. Knowing this, you can push but just e sure to do it in a professional way.

If you *definitely* have another offer in hand, you can always note that: “I am currently reviewing an offer that expires ______, however, I would also like to consider what possibilities Deloitte's office #2 has available before I make my decision.”

You can modify the _____ date so that it's a few a days before the actual date, to give yourself some space.

    Couldn't pass again!
