How to proceed?

So I went to Publix to get groceries, and the bagger for that particular asile offered to help carry the groceries to my car. While we were walking there, I mentioned how I’m currently working for a government contractor, and contracts come and go, and that I’m hoping to transfer to our parent company. He told me that he can relate because he used to also work in government contracting, and he works at Publix now because retirement wasn’t that much fun. He also told me that he knows someone at our parent company who is in charge of sales, and he gave me that guy’s name and told me to tell him that he told me to talk to the other guy. And then I gave him my business card and he said he might see that other guy today and that he would be definitely interested in someone like me.

I am just wondering, should I send the other guy an email or LinkedIn add? If so, what should I say?

This is what I sent a partner in tax once when I was trying to switch to tax. You can tailor it to your situation. Reaching out would not hurt at all. You never know.

My name is X and I currently work in internal audit. I have been with the firm a little over a year. I was talking to my counselor and I mentioned to her that tax is an area that I would be interested in pursuing in the future and she suggested that I reach out to you. She mentioned that you might be able to provide feedback and guidance as to how to best develop my skills and experience if I pursue a career in tax. Currently I have no experience in tax, but am in the process of taking my CPA and have an interest in developing my skills and knowledge in tax.

If your schedule permits I would like to meet with you in person. Let me know what day would work best for you.

PS I love Publix. Their employees are always so polite all the time. I have never had a bad experience at Publix.

Thanks for the input. And I share your feeling to be over with the CPA process hehe. I am just curious, how should I modify the message since this other person is not in accounting (he's the director of sales)?

I guess to backtrack on the previous question, would it be a good idea to ask to meet with this person since he is the director of sales and is not in accounting?

I've worked at Publix for almost 8 years while finishing school and getting CPA. Great company.
