    My background:

    Graduated with MSA in 2011

have short term internship experience in a small CPA firm before graduate

do not have working experience after graduation

passed all parts of CPA exams

want to land a job in a small-mid size firm on tax side

I have some connections through linkedin who are staffs or managers even partners in CPA firms, I do not know these people at all. Is it proper to contact them for job openings through linkedin massages? Who shall I start with? Staff, manager or partner?

Please give some suggestions on how to perform the networking through linkedin.

    Thank you!

Thank you for your valuable advice. It reminds me that I got my internship opportunity by sending out tons of cold emails. I have a technical question to ask. If I find out the list of local firms, whom shall I contact with? HR people, tax/audit staff, manager or partner? Shall I email them or sent them InMail through LinkedIn? If the person I contact with does not reply, can I contact another one from the same firm?

As for the content of the email, shall I ask for openings in the very first email?

Whoa.. so many. First of all, I normally didn't email them if they didn't have a spot available, which should say on their website. If they have an ambiguous message of just sending in your resume, I'd make sure I include the cover letter as well. I would personally email the recruiter and write a very personalized message. They provide the email of WHO you should email for job inquiries. Emailing the Partner is a crapshoot, they might or might not reply. I haven't done that yet. But I've had much luck emailing the recruiter and following up after a week if they haven't replied (sometimes mail get overlooked). If they don't reply after your follow up, MORE THAN LIKELY, they're not interested.

I've used my personal email. I don't have the funds to do Inmail or get Premium, maybe when I'm really desperate.

I don't think I've ASKED for openings. I would say I'm emailing in regards to the position posted on your website. Show them you're interested and let them come to you. Don't force them to look at your resume, let them want to. Make sure your email shows that you're well-read and possibly interesting to talk to. Ask them if they would like to discuss your background over the phone or even coffee if you're that brave.

Thank you for your reply. So your meaning is contact them when there is an opening on their website. I apply a couple of position posted on firms' website, but got no reply after a week. Shall I email my resume to the recruiter again? If they have an online application system, should I email the recruiter or just follow the online application steps?

Okay, I'm saying this not to be mean. But you're asking questions that you can find out for yourself. How would I know whether you should do the online application or email the recruiter? That's a personal choice, or even you could email the recruiter to find out for yourself. And I wrote above that once you've applied, you could follow up after a week.
