Curious what is the best way to build a relationship with the IT guys at work? They are mostly behind the scenes, but their responsibilities are highly valuable to any organization and they generally have the inside scoop on many of the employees. For example, they provide network security clearance including setting up usernames and passwords to databases and software, monitor web traffic, emails, and keyloggers, etc.

How important would you say it is to develop a relationship with them or at least be knowledgeable about IT and IT security in the workplace? (i.e. plugging your phone into a work computer to charge, not locking your work computer while you are away on a break, leaving your phone unattended and vulnerable to sabotage, etc.)

What are your thoughts and experience with this? Do you have any tips or word of advice?

Because Big 4 you have access to more complex systems and accounting. It is more social and you interact with many different accountants and professionals. You have better opportunities after working with the larger firms because of the prestige, but it doesn't necessarily make you a better auditor or accountant.

I think there has been some miscommunication in this discussion due to the nature of what we are discussing and not really able to grasp the tone of the conversation. I am truly simply interested in learning more about the work environment and how to excel at the Senior + level at a larger company. Based on what was described, it does not seem like there is much for me to concern about and considering the environments I've worked in the past compared to how the Big 4 you don't have to deal with the “unprofessionalism” so it sounds like a walk in the park.
