I would not have believed this could happen if I hadn’t been there myself. Wow! That’s the only thing I can say.

This guy shows up at my office at 4:30pm on Friday, April 11th looking for a job. I introduced myself and then when I told him that he would have to come back at another time because we were swamped, he asked to speak to the “man in charge about setting up an appointment on Tuesday”. I played along thinking this has got to be a practical joke. I go tell my partner that someone wants to see him about a job and he laughed about the “man in charge” comment. He tells me to “let him stew for a few minutes”. So I did. While waiting on the “man in charge” this guy proceeds to tell me that he can do my job in 1/2 the time because he got 91% in Advanced Accounting so the CPA exam is going to be a “piece of cake” and shouldn’t take more than a “month to pass”. My license is hanging on the wall, literally right behind my head. My name is on the freaking building! And he never put two and two together. Finally, “the man in charge” comes out to my desk and introduces himself and then proceeds to introduce me as his partner and tells the guy that “She makes all of the hiring decisions” and points to me. This guy went from the deepest shade of red I have ever seen on a human being to white as a sheet in about 30 seconds. It took him that long to figure out that I was a CPA. I just smiled and said “Good luck with your job search.” When he walked out of the office, I looked at my partner and asked “Did that just happen?” WOW!

You can tell him that I'll work him like a dddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd Drama Ninja is not a wuss…do not dare call out the Drama Ninja for I — I mean he is deadlier and stealthier than Chuck Norris and Rambo combined.

We'll have a bad day once in a while. But the good news is, yesterday is an old day.

Cheer up everyone! Today is going to be a great day!

For someone who does not know your background, you did come across as a very arrogant individual. A common trait that many arrogant individuals have is that most things come very easy to them. But now after learning more about you, and your struggles, I have changed my mind, and I do need to apologize for judging a book by its cover. A person who had to struggle so much to achieve their dreams, and nothing came easy to them, only deserves to be admired. I wish I was as persistent as you are.

Going back to the topic….who the hell brags about a high score in ONE class?

You should have asked him what his overall GPA as. I bet it was average or mediocre. Which is why he's probably cold calling/dropping in like he is.

You should have looked at him with an “i'm so sorry” look and said, “Oh 91%? Wow so close. Unfortunately, our cutoff for hiring is 95% in that class. Tell you what. take that class again and get a better score and we'll see what we can do about getting you a part time internship”

I agree that the guy made some off comments and he most likely should of been sent off with scorn. However I wish SOME women in power wouldn't be so sensitive and require complete tyrannical political correctness. If this young chap said “PERSON in charge about setting up an appointment on Tuesday” he would of received a lot less scorn from Kricket, but it's literally just one word change. If a women came into the office and said “man in charge about setting up an appointment on Tuesday”, we wouldn't be having this conversation even though each person had the same misconception. Part of the problem is some women are requiring extra praise and attention for their climb up the corporate ladder and this is keeping men and women further segregated. In Kricket's original post it sounds like she was bothered most by the man in charge comment, and peace of mind could best be achieved by not being in awe of her accomplishments as a woman but as a human being instead.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

    SM, cmon.

“MAN in charge”? Really? Who says that anymore? Half of my bosses are women. Besides, again…who talks like that?

He could used so many other types of pronouns:

    Person

    Hiring Manager

    Owner

    A Partner

    Office Manager

Person in charge of making hiring decisions

Besides, even if Kricket was the secretary. who the hell says, “I think I can do your job in half the time”???!!! That right there is enough tell someone to go fly a kite.
