Assuming one aspires to be nothing higher than a senior accountant and does not get the CPA, how much do accountants make in the private industry in a city like Houston, Texas? Let’s say the person has 7 years of experience in accounting.

The years of experience beyond 4-5 probably won't get you a further premium assuming you've not done any more advanced work than senior acct.

I'll mostly agree with the above. I would estimate total compensation (base, bonus, 401k match, etc) will probably put you in the 75-100k range. Unfortunately, without a promotion or moving into a very specialized group/function or somewhere that you have a rare skillset at that level, raises will probably be 1-3% per year afterwards, if that.

I'd say that around the $80k mark would be accurate in most larger cities. Senior at my last company made about $90-95k (California), but she came from a large public corporation, and my company was notorious for offering higher to incentive prospective employees.
