Hi

So I have never worked in public accounting before, I am wondering how much advantage I would working in bookkeeping (including payroll) when working (not interviewing) in an entry level position in a public accounting firm?

Not sure about larger firms, but at smaller firms that is what you will usually start out doing.
Data entry/bookkeeping so you get an idea of where the information comes from, and then eventually you learn where it goes.
I don't think bookkeeping/payroll experience will HURT you, but probably also not a huge benefit, but better than no experience.

Any experience is good experience..payroll is a waste..but you should get some tax experience as well while there as its all hands on deck come tax time..

Even if its low pay..learn all you can and study on your own..I doubled my salary nearly in 3 years..sooo youre paid for what you know and you bring to the table..as entry level you know nothing..so learn

So you are saying that at a smaller CPA/Public Accounting firm, you start out with bookkeeping?
