For those in Audit, how many hours do you typically work in a week? I’ve been averaging about 45 hours a week and I’m a 1st year staff. Am I an anomaly?

My firm has 55 billable hour minimum. So realistically you're looking at at least 60 if you eat lunch at your desk everyday (and everyone does)

    REG - 80 (2/28/13)
    AUD - 68 (5/24/13), 84 (7/11/13)
    BEC - 83 (8/29/13)
    FAR - 70 (12/04/13) 80 (2/10/14)

Minimum rate is 55 a week, but that usually turns into 60. I've been hitting about 70-75 hrs a week for the most part. For me the worst is over and I'll probably be back to 60 hrs a week pretty soon. My busy season lasts until the end of March and gets semi busy (50 hrs a week) until May.

For those that have financial services vs commercial clients, are your hours better or no? I really like working on hedge funds so far (my firm has a large financial services client base), and could do without being at a client's office for weeks at a time.

    @I should be studying

I'm not sure how everyone else enters time but at our firm everything is entered into our system at .25 hour. So if i receive a phone call .25, if i respond to an email .25, etc. I usually end up with 12 hours a day even if i only am here for 10 hours.

Either way I work about 55-60 hours per week. Year round. I do a little of everything here though, not just audit. with 55-60 hours at the office or remote, I end up with 70-80 hours of billable time per week.

you bill more hours than you actually work??… usually it is completely the opposite (is 50 billables usually means 60 work hours). I dont work in public so i dont really know. In industry i usually work about 45-50 off season (salary) and 60-70 busy times (Jan and late aug through mid sept)

    Aud-75 3x I knew i never liked you
Bec-77 1x being in the bubble is stressful
Reg-82 4x its not me its you...and no we cant be friends

I'm with Payfields. My firm has some pretty aggressive guidelines on how to bill. Almost everything is billable unless it's CPE or something. I'm not supposed to log checking emails as non-charge, for example. Heck, the guidelines specifically says that even bathroom breaks are chargeable because we're not robots.

I almost always end up with more chargeable than I am physically at work. And a very slim non-charge in busy season.

They emphasize that no one is supposed to eat time and it's up to the billing manager to waive charges – not associates.

    REG - 94
    BEC - 92
    FAR - 92
    AUD - 99

We only bill what we work, and even have different billing rates for certain codes. Billing in excess of work seems a little unethical to me.

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!
