For those in Audit, how many hours do you typically work in a week? I’ve been averaging about 45 hours a week and I’m a 1st year staff. Am I an anomaly?

@futureCPA12 That was pretty normal for me last year (it's my second busy season) because I wasn't put into the field much. I was between 45-50 and I only started to reach 60's when I entered my second busy season for the other half of my job (Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement cost reports). This year I'm averaging a lot more due to more fieldwork and more experience in general so they are putting more on my plate. I work in a small firm though, about 25, with only 7 in the audit department.

    BEC - DONE! - 10/12/12
    AUD - DONE! - 10/31/12
FAR - Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope... 5th times the charm? 4/6/2014...
    REG - DONE! - 8/25/13

    Yes stay where you are!

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

We have 50 hour minimums from January 1 through whenever your audit signs-off. Last week I worked 77 hours. The week before was just under 70 because I didn't have to work Sunday. I'm lucky if I work less than 45 during non-busy season weeks.

I feel like it depends on the firm. Big 4, I wouldn't be surprised if people put in 60+ hours a week. My firm has a 55 hour/wk busy season, but you're not penalized if you can't hit that number. It's just the standard. You can't “create” work for yourself. I've gotten to the point where I ask for work and my seniors/managers just say “go home” haha.

Nah, its part of our job to work busy seasons. We get base pay as high as we do because of the hard work we put in.

My firm has 55 billable hour minimum. So realistically you're looking at at least 60 if you eat lunch at your desk everyday (and everyone does)

    REG - 80 (2/28/13)
    AUD - 68 (5/24/13), 84 (7/11/13)
    BEC - 83 (8/29/13)
    FAR - 70 (12/04/13) 80 (2/10/14)
