    Hi all,

Hope everyone’s studying is going well, for those that are studying.

I interviewed for a consulting position at a public accounting firm at the beginning of July. I heard from the recruiter a few days after the interview. I was told the team had good feedback for me regarding my interview. The recruiter said needed to have some discussions internally and he’d have more to tell me later. Also asked me my salary desires and when I could start.

He called me the next week asking me about my references. I didn’t give my current boss’ information because they don’t know I’m looking for a new job. So I told him about my references and he said he’d reach out to them by the end of the week and then would have “feedback” for me. This phone call occurred on a Thursday. I’ve spoken with both people who I put down as references and they haven’t heard a peep.

The next week I didn’t call. I did call and leave a message the Monday after I waited a week. Said I wanted to follow up about the status of the position, etc.

Can anyone shed some light on my situation? Have you ever waited almost 6 weeks of little to no communication of substance, and then all of the sudden received good news about the job? For any of you that have worked on the other side in public accounting (this is the consulting side) can you give me some insight on what has to happen for someone to interview and then get offered a job? I know sometimes HR can move at the speed of HR (Jeff said this in one post somewhere), but 6 weeks seems a bit ridiculous.

The only time I’ve ever waited this long between interview and the decision I didn’t receive good news. Here’s to hoping my Another71 family can give me a spot of hope!!

Thanks in advance for your input.

    UPDATE:

Sorry for all of these. I forgot to mention this earlier, I think, but my dad thought the delay was because someone was on vacation. And he was sure of it, not just saying that because I'm his son and he was trying to make me feel better.

I received a call yesterday from the recruiter. The recruiter has been on vacation!! There has been an issue with a former boss of mine and getting in touch with him. The recruiter said they had every intention with moving forward with me they just had to get the reference situation solved. I'll be in touch with him today if we can't figure out my current situation and perhaps provide a different reference.

Not sure how many of you are standing by or not, but I find there are threads on here that never have any follow up from the OP. I will do that so I don't leave any one hanging.

That's awesome! 🙂 Guess that being patient paid off…! That's unfortunate that they're having trouble contacting your reference, but at least they liked you enough to keep trying!

For my current job, it took them about 5 weeks to get back to me and that was only after I called the company recruiter 3 times. When he finally got back to me he said, “they are planning to offer you the job, they are just waiting for the position to be signed off by the CFO.” Apparently the approval had been on his desk for a few weeks but regardless, I thought the recruiter should've done a better job at communicating.

I'm not sure if it's a disclosure thing and they don't want to set themselves up in case something goes wrong but most recruiters I have dealt with have been pretty poor at their job in my opinion.

    UPDATE:

I officially received an offer letter early last week!! I of course accepted and will be moving to start my new job in a few weeks!!

I'm really excited because my current position won't allow me to work towards my CPA license because my current boss isn't a CPA and wouldn't work with me to try and move me to work under a CPA. Nevertheless!!! It has happened and I'm really excited about it.

Being out of cycle was tough, just glad passing the exams and a bit of networking finally paid off!!!

Thanks everyone for your good thoughts that you may or may not have sent my way!!

For those of you still studying, keep calm and study on!!
