Hi Ninjas,
I just want to hear your thoughts about my situation. So I recently sent in my CPA license application and now currently waiting for approval from the board. I am currently unemployed and have 3 years experience in private and 3 months in public (it was a temp job in a small accounting firm). I am currently seeking for employment in public accounting so I can become more rounded accountant and so that I can put public accounting experience on my resume. I know how employers love public accounting experience.
In the future, I plan to work in travel/hospitality industry. I looked up my ideal jobs in this industry and they did not mention public accounting experience even for the controller position. I don’t plan to become a CFO nor opening my own firm. So how important is public accounting experience in my case as the industry I am interested in seems does not care too much about public accounting? Should I just start looking for a job in the industry that I am interested or put some time in public accounting so that I can put public experience on my resume? I am 27 years old this year and have no family yet.
