How can I find a 2-month temp accounting job?

After graduating with a BS in Accounting 17 months ago, I finally landed a long-term staff accounting job this week. As relieved and excited I am to join the new company, I have to wait until January 2013 to start. Now I am seeking a temporary position through the end of the year but need help with where to look.

Would it be best to use a service like Accountemps (Robert Half)? Are there companies with accounting-related jobs that need extra people during Nov-Dec?

Most recently, I’ve been working for my dad (who is a CPA). However, after tax season, there has been much less work for me. I passed all four parts of the CPA exam earlier this year, so I no longer need the time to study. And although I could make better money in a restaurant for two months, my preference would be to do something that prepares me for January.

Thank you in advance for the advice. And best of luck to all of those still looking for any/better accounting jobs!

You said you worked for your dad who is a CPA already – that sounds like you have some accounting experience. Do you just want more? Do you need to save up some cash/buy new work clothes/pay insurance premiums until your benefits kick in?

I'm not sure how much you'll be able to learn in 2 short months before switching. Maybe talk to the company you're working for to find out if they actually want you to have any more experience between now & then; they might want to train you on-site and prefer that you haven't learned any “Bad habits.”

IF I knew I was going to be out of work temporarily, I've thought about it and decided that I'd prefer to do some volunteer work if I were in a situation like yours.

Why not just take a vacation and travel?

You have a job offer lined up, passed your CPA, you earn yourself a reward. You mentioned your dad is a CPA and has his own practice so I'm sure money is not a problem for you. Once you start working, time is going to be your most limited resources. It'll be hard to take 2 weeks off from work to travel. You don't really need to worry about preparing for your job in 2013, they will train you.

Now is the perfect time. Enjoy!

    BEC - 77
    FAR - 70, 81
    AUD - 74 "so that's what it feels like." Round 2: 79

Passing the exam is not impossible task. GIVING UP is the only way YOU can make it impossible!

Take 2 months to relax, you'll never get to again until you retire.

Yeah, seriously relax… do some traveling! Or get in shape, read, watch movies, etc, etc. Sooo many things to do before you start your job. Once you start working, you'll basically become a slave and hate your life :”( lol, jk, you won't, or maybe you will? Either way, I wouldn't want to do jack between now and January 2013. Plus, the world might end in December, so yolo!

Short 1 month Christmas business. Don't sell trees, that is a mess.
