    Hi,

I am graduating with an economics degree with a very low cumulative gpa.

    It is around a 2.4.

However, I have recently decided to pursue a CPA, and have taken 5 upper

division accounting courses for 15 hours worth of credit, at a community

college offering state approved CPA courses. All my accounting classes have

been taken at the community college and my accounting GPA here is a 4.0.

The last 15 hours I’ve taken in college, I’ve earned a 4.0. I am also on track

to finish another 15 hours this semester with a 4.0 GPA, so that my last 30

hours GPA is a 4.0. I have no prior accounting work experience.

Do I have a chance at big 4, despite my low cumulative gpa? If not, where

should I be looking for jobs? Should I just list my accounting gpa and last

30 hours gpa, and not my cumulative gpa?

Community college are notorious for giving As. Most people will not consider jr college grades since its really inflated. Don't let GPA get you down. My undergrad GPA was 2.97 and for a really long time I thought that was holding me back. Instead get your act together and pass the cpa exam and network like crazy.

Well, I don't want to dash your dreams of becoming employed at a big 4, but I work at a big 4 firm and am actively involved in recruiting…I can tell you that most resumes with GPAs below 3.2 is considered a sub-par GPA and are not looked at seriously. It's great that your community college GPA is high, but like the above poster said, it doesn't carry a whole lot of weight. If you want to become a big 4 employee, your best bet is to pass the CPA and then apply. Good luck.
