So I’m currently getting my master’s degree in accounting at UCF and am in a sticky situation in terms of my start date. I did an internship over the summer with a great firm to which I got a full time offer for fall of 2018 in the Orlando office. Reason being is that I anticipated graduating this fall (2017) and there weren’t any openings in the spring. However, it is looking like I am going to graduate in the summer so when I reached out to change my start date to this September, I was told there weren’t any openings in Orlando but I could move to Ft. Lauderdale. I really don’t want to move to Ft. Lauderdale as I enjoy Orlando a lot and see a future here, especially since my girlfriend has her career with Disney. However, I don’t want to make a mistake with my career. Will waiting a year to start drastically affect my future? I feel like if I could find an accounting position in the meantime after I graduate with either a smaller firm or a private company that would be great and be an added bonus for when I do start with my firm due to more experience, but I’m not sure how attainable that will be. Also, I’ve passed 3/4 CPA exams so far with my last one scheduled March 9th so studying in the meantime most likely won’t be an option.
Thanks!
