GPA dropped hugely after accepting an internship offer - Page 2

I got an intern offer from one Big4 last September when my cumulative GPA is 3.73 and accounting major GPA 3.28. But some bad things happened to my family made me hardly concentrate in my final exams. I did really bad in one physics course and one math course, making my cumulative GPA drop to 3.54 while it did not affect my accounting major GPA since those two are all engineering related courses. Would this huge drop of my GPA would make my offer rescinded? I appreciate all replies.

Thank you all. Those tragedies happening to me last several months really stressed me out, but I am feeling better now.

I am grateful for all replies.

Lol, no misunderstanding. It's just that's hardly a huge drop. You went from slightly low A- range to B+ range. No one would care. However, if you have to give an update on your transcript eventually to them, you can simply note it wasn't your best semester.

Anything over 3.5 is considered a good GPA. Anything over 3.0 is an acceptable GPA. Anything below 3.0 and you may have trouble getting interviews.

But you're beyond that stage. The firm isn't going to pull an updated transcript before they decide on whether or not to give you a job offer. And they definitely don't pull one after they've given you a job offer – all that matters then is whether or not you graduate in time to start work. And they 100% definitely don't check your transcript after giving you an internship offer!

I mean – imagine the wasted time and resources if these firms were constantly double checking transcripts after extending offers. It would be ridiculous.

So worry less about your GPA and more about doing well during your internship.

    REG - 94
    BEC - 92
    FAR - 92
    AUD - 99

Most Big 4 may give you trouble if your overall or major GPAs drop below 3.0 (unless internal policy has changed since 2011). You are not even close to this, so I wouldn't worry about it. If I remember correctly, the offer says something like “maintaining your academic standing”… clearly vague, but I only knew of one person who was borderline and HR told them they needed to get a 3.0 by graduation.

Hey @CPA_is_awesome you truly have nothing to worry about. I was exactly in the same position in 2009 and had no issues at all. I'm sure that if a study were to be done on all those who received job offers most (not all) have had lower gpa's. I am not suggesting that you go under 3.0 but I am definitely saying you should not worry.

    Enjoy your last semester!

    FAR: April or May 2014
    AUD:
    REG:
    BEC:
    Scared: 100

FAR first and only attempt: 2014 Wiley textbook, 10 Pt Combo, and WTB

I only get one try to have to give it my all and try to get 75 on my first go around.

-The only thing that stands between you and what you want out of life is the will to try and the faith to believe it's possible.
