To those of you working with the government agencies what is your experience with the wait period between the interview date and offer/denial letter. It is almost 2 months since I attended an interview with a government agency and up to date no offer/denial letter. It is normal? when I call for follow up the response is the process is ongoing and that I will get a call/letter from the HR department for an offer/denial.

Well, I guess it depends on the department but usually if they like you and want to hire you, they'd call you the next week the latest. And if they are not interested it may take forever to receive the rejection letter. Sometimes they don't send it at all.

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

I used to work for a gov't agency. I interviewed in June and I got the official acceptance in September. I did, however, call a few times and told them I was very interested and would like to be updated on my status. They kept telling me, “Nothing is official yet, but you are our choice.”

When I finally started working, I asked why it took so long and they said my offer had to be cleared by a few offices/people to see if I can fit the budget.

I would maybe call the person who interviewed you and ask your update.

Like what others said, it's contingent with their budget. Expect to wait for awhile and just keep following up. I don't really understand why govt will do recruitment if they're not even sure if they have the budget to hire new people 🙁

As a current government employee I'm not the least bit surprised about the delay in your interview process. Things move so slow around here and people tend to be very lazy… Fortunately for me, when I was hired I heard back within 3-4 days that I got the job. About the only thing I'm thankful for is that this job has helped me fulfill my experience requirement. As soon as I pass the rest of the exams I'm out of here!!

    REG: 78 (5/31/2013)
    AUD: 59 (8/31/2013); 81 (10/8/2013)
    BEC: 80 (12/5/2013)
    FAR: 2/28/2014
