    I’m thinking about going back to school and learning more about databases, etc. I really like working with accounting software. Does anyone know about taking this route? Any specific IT degrees that compliment a CPA?

    I have degrees in Accounting and Management. I'm getting my Masters in IT right now, but that is for my own benefit. A lot of the people I work with started right out of college with an Accounting degree.

    FAR - 84 PASSED
    AUD - 93 PASSED
    REG - 84 PASSED

    so, i just passed all of my CPA exams. Next, I want to start on CISA. I have never worked in IT: I have 5 years of Big 4 FS Audit and 2 years of Internal Audit experience. I tried to make sense out of ISACA website's experience requirements for ths license, but I still have no idea what they are talking about…so confusing. I understand only one thing: with the experience I have currently, I do not qualify for the license, correct? I have Bachelors in Accounting and no masters yet. Can someone, pleeeease, help me out with this? Thank you so much, guys!

    one last exam score to wait for......
    FAR - 78
    BEC - 84
    AUD - 92
    REG - 88

    @whopper The best way to learn about databases is to learn on the job, if possible. Through various jobs I've learned MS Access, SQL Server, Oracle, and Teradata. Companies are always looking for people with both a finance/accounting background and an IT background, especially if you know SQL really well. Outside of audit and accounting there a lot of opportunities in finance.

    AUD – 96

    BEC – 95

    FAR – 83

    REG – 90

    I wish my job had training, but all they will support is Excel. Im thinking about returning to school as I think even walking in entry level will require knowledge of whats been mentioned above. But, that would mean another gap in work history (I took time off in between jobs for CPA exam). Soooo…I have a lot of career decisions but very thankful for the feedback! This was a great post!

    @btpull

    Any tips on job hunting. I sort of fell into becoming a SQL Server and InfoPath developer over the last 3-4 years. I basically built a project management system for our department. Obviously, I now have my CPA Exams behind me and I am trying to figure out how to translate my SQL skills and my CPA into a career advancement. I am making about 77k+Bonus now so I am probably not looking to start at the bottom of the profession like a lot of new CPAs given my previous experience.
