My full time job doesn’t involve any public accounting type work (audit/tax/book keeping), however I want to build some experiences and do freelance work on the side, how should I start? I have no experiences in professional tax preparation or book keeping software like Quickbook… I am thinking about looking for “intern” type of position in local accounting firms just to build up some experiences, but is this really the best approach?
A little bit about myself… I have a master degree in accounting and an active CPA license, 6+ years working experience in corporate accounting and FP&A. I do mostly forecast/multi-year planning/management reporting type of work. I do have couple years of corporate accounting experiences – booking journal entries, account reconciliations, cost accounting..etc.
Any advises are greatly appreciated!!
