Follow-up email?

I am just wondering, if your interviewer says you should expect to hear back in around 2 weeks, and you don’t hear back in 2 weeks, what would be a good way to write a follow-up email to check on your status? (for those wondering, I just interviewed yesterday, and hopefully I will hear back in 2 weeks, so that I won’t have to deliberate whether or not to send a follow-up email)

I had this situation a couple months ago, where I was supposed to hear back by the end of the month, but that didn't happen. I sent my recruiter a LinkedIn message (email is acceptable too, I imagine) saying I was still interested in the position and was eager to hear back from them. It's a good thing I did, because he said the Senior Manager completely forgot about my application. I had an interview that week, and got an offer the next day!

It will definitely show you are interested and eager to work for them. Wait a little more than 2 weeks though, maybe 3. Don't want to appear pushy. It's all a game when trying to find a job 🙂

Thanks man. I'll wait until Tuesday, June 25. That will be 2 weeks and 5 days.

    That sounds reasonable.

A reminder is always good– you never know if they lost your contact info or something. And even if they're still deciding, a follow-up shows that you are really interested.

    Does this sound good?

    Dear (name)

Hope you are doing well. I just wanted to follow up with you regarding the status for the Auditor position and see if you need any additional information from me. I am still interested in the position and am eager to hear back from you.

    Sincerely,

    (name)

That sounds good to me. I usually send a note the day after an interview thanking them again for their time, restating my enthusiasm for the position, and encouraging them to contact me if they need any additional information.

Then, follow up a few days after the target “hear back” date to check in.

So far I've gotten an offer from every interview I've gone to… probably a bad precedent to have set for myself.

Sounds great, that's pretty much exactly what I sent my recruiter. Good luck!

A mentor told me to call instead of email, so I called this afternoon. Went straight to voicemail. *facepalm* I did leave a voicemail though, basically saying the same thing I would have said if I sent the email.
