Has anyone had interview experiences where you feel something is not right? Personally, I interviewed with a company and they told me that I will hear back in about 5 weeks. But then a week after my interview, I heard back from them and they said, “we have determined that the position that we are looking to fill is not the right fit for you.” So I asked them if they have any feedback on how I can improve upon future interviews, and they said that I interviewed fine, it’s just that they think the position wasn’t the right fit for me. Okay seriously, “we think the position is not the right fit for you”?????? Something is not right here.

(by the way, for anyone wondering, I’m employed now, it’s just that my time job seeking is still very fresh in my mind)

And I'm not trying to be challenging but just as someone a bit more “seasoned” (LOL) getting a job offer after 12 interviewes is exceptionally impressive in this job market. When I was looking to change jobs while working, I had at least 50+ interviews over 2 years time, and sent out at least 200 resumes.

I'm with mla as well. I don't see anything particularly unusual with what you describe in the original post.

Regardless, there's no use in dwelling on it now that you've found employment. I would just forget about it.

@mla1169, Keely, (I'm only saying the following in response to a question, you guys are right about moving on though). The reason I thought something was suspicious was the fact that they said that it would take 4-to-6 weeks to select people for a 2nd interview, and I heard back from them within 2 business days. Also, if I met their qualifications and truly “did fine in the interview,” then why would they be so quick to dismiss me?

P.S. If/when I pass all 4 sections of the CPA exam, I'll spill the beans about why I was so bummed out.

Lots of reasons why they might be so quick to dismiss you, honestly . The first is that someone internally was a good match (a lot of companies have to post job listings per their policies even if they already know who's going to get the job). Or they could have had a more qualified candidate that somehow let them know they couldn't possibly wait 5 weeks for an offer, had another offer on the table already. Or the person who said 4-6 weeks was simply mistaken. Or maybe the person who was to be vacating the job was convinced to stay on (offered more money, reduced hours, etc not to have to train somebody new).

I can easily understand being totally bummed out over not getting a job for many reasons . I'll be looking forward to hearing the rest of your story! In the meantime though I just wouldn't spend a minute questioning their motives. Things are rarely what they appear on the surface.

@mla1169 Thanks for the explanations. I wouldn't be surprised if one of your explanations is actually what happened lol. Btw, if anyone wants to find me, I'll mostly be at the “AUD Exam Prep” from now until May 18.

P.S. I was thinking, just to make the waiting game for FAR score release more interesting, if I pass, I'll tell another one of my interview experiences (cause out of 12, I only have 2 that kinda made me think twice, the other 10 I felt were normal).
