Before starting the first day at a new job

So I’m starting a new position at a small firm in a few days. Before my first day, is it a good idea to call the office with some general questions I have? Specifically the dress code. I was thinking about wearing a suit and tie to hopefully make a good first impression around the office, and I would rather be overdressed than under on my first day. But then again, if I don’t have to completely overhaul my wardrobe with new suits, I would rather not spend the $$. Is it OK to call the office before starting to ask something like this?

Excellent question… Unfortunately I did not get a chance to see what the staff was wearing. I was in and out of the conference room and didn't really see the rest of the office. The partner that interviewed me was dressed rather casual. Then again, he's the partner, and I presume he can wear whatever he wants πŸ™‚

    Size of firm?

So far it sounds like you don't need to buy new clothes but wear what you think looks good from your closet. I have overdressed for every first day…

Business casual seems like a pretty good bet.

Garry its an excellent idea for you to call and ask questions of that nature, it will clear ur mind and make your first day less stressful πŸ™‚ . I would not go out and buy a wardrobe until I have a feel for the place though.

    Congrats and good luck πŸ™‚

Thanks for the advice everyone. Anyone else have any opinions on calling the office with questions before starting their first day?
