What’s the best way to go on about finding job opportunities in another state?
Should I reach out to local recruiters in the state I want to move to?
Would it be better to apply directly and just fly in & out for interviews?

What do you guys think about saving up some money beforehand and moving their first w/o a job offer on hand? Risky, I know, but has anyone done this?

I currently reside in Colorado, but I want to move to Vegas area eventually, but just not sure how to go on about it. Any thoughts?

I don't have any real advice other than to mention something you've likely already considered.

That is, many employers may question why you would want to move and might assume you're just spamming your resume everywhere. So all I can really advise is to make some reference to why you want to relocate specifically to Las Vegas. For Vegas, I would think an explanation is even MORE important as a potential firm may wonder if you're a gambling accountant (a potentially very dangerous combination, lol).

I'm personally trying to break into academia where it is far more common to relocate to the job location. Still, I do try to give some indication as to why I chose to apply to a specific school.

In any event, the only way I or anyone else could advise you to relocate first would be if you have a really solid plan (family in the area who will help, an unrelated job for funds, etc.) beforehand.

Honestly moving to NV is a combination of personal reasons – no state income tax, no cold winter / snow, direct flight available to my home country where the rest of my family resides, affordable living, & a decent/growing job market etc.
I lived in Missouri, Indiana, and California prior to moving to Colorado. Since I have no family ties to any of the states, I am just really looking for a state I can call home and settle down.
I appreciate your advice and will try to form a real plan… 🙂

Be aware that many places, like here in Southern California, recruiters and employers will not consider out-of-state candidates. You might want to consider a temp job to get you in the area and expand your oportunities.

@Jombe, I want to give you some encouragment in this area. I actually am in the middle of relocating to another state and I did exactly what you mentioned. I applied directly for positions and I flew in and out for interviews. It turns out that I only had to fly there once and I had a job offer. I did phone interviews initially and then when they were ready to move forward I set up multiple interviews in one day. I also met with two recruiters but they weren't that helpful. It helps if you know someone there whose address you could use. But if not, you could use the city and zipcode where you plan to relocate. And pray a lot. It sounds like you have good reasons to move there. You could consider a contract job, but make sure that it's on the same level of where you are now. Blessings!

Don't tell them about living in other areas and not having ties, are you sure you want to stay in vegas? Beign a nomad can get lonley and tiresome..ive done it. Currently stuck in Chicago and hate it.

Regardless just put a local Vegas address on your resume and plan accordingly about interviewing out there, tell them you just moved and are staying with friends.

You likley will not get interviews if you are not local. Unless you are Sr. level or above with technical skills needed.
