Filing tax returns for friends/family

Lot of my friends are asking whether I could file their tax returns (for a fee:). I would love to do this as I just started working in public accounting, this will give me more experience and extra cash can’t hurt.

I’ve always filed mine & my parents’ tax returns using Turbo tax; creating different accounts with e-mail addresses, etc. However, is there better a way to do this? I don’t want to open 10 turbo tax accounts when most of the tax returns I will do will be straightforward. Some of these will be 1040NR, which doesn’t even qualify for efiling on turbo tax.

    Any help is appreciated!! Thanks!

Have you considered investing in an inexpensive tax prep software program? If you search the forum I think there have been a few threads discussing the differences/similarities/pros/cons of the various programs out there. It might be helpful if you choose to go that route. 🙂

I don't believe you're able to be a paid preparer using turbo tax. I've heard a lot of people recommend Drake as a cheap software. I have a friend who only does like 10 returns and he uses it.

I know Turbo Tax lets you file up to 5 returns with the software purchase. I'm not sure if you could do another 5 if you purchased it again. You would have to use a diffent email. I might try it, but don't want to waste the money if it doesn't work.
