Federal Contract Specialist and CPA requirements

I’m graduating soon and I recently got an offer to be a “contract specialist” for the federal government. The pay, benefits, and promotions are fantastic. Non-competitive up to GS-11.

First question, does anyone have any experience qualifying for their CPA while in this type of role? I know accountants supervise the departments but that is all.

Second question, does anyone know of good exit-ops into the private world should the need arise?

Hi Old – If you that offer I would not let it go unless you have another competitive offer. I started as a GS-07 and it was non competitive all the way up to GS-12. Like you said, the benefits are great and work schedules are flexible. I have not met anyone making the transition to the private sector but it is always an option, although you will not get certain benefits.

Yeah I'm definitely not going to turn it down. I had to use my contacts from my Marine days to get the offer and I wouldn't screw them like that. I'm thinking that if I don't qualify for the CPA I can move into the DCAA or what not to get the audit experience.
