Fall Recruitment for Non-Students

I am a recent spring graduate who did not have much luck last year with getting a job. I did two tax seasons interning at a local CPA firm who decided they were not going to hire anyone due to overstaffment. I live in northwest Montana so there are not a whole lot of jobs here and no Big 4 located here. It seems as if every job opening I find here is looking for someone with at least 7 to 10 years of experience. I realize fall is the recruiting season. Can you still partake in the recruitment process if you are a non-student? I guess my husband and I are willing to move even though we do not really want to. Or do any of you have any suggestions or advice on finding a job where most of the firms are looking for someone with experience? How do I get experience if most are looking for someone with experience? This process is frustrating. I chose a degree that I could actually do something with and find a job with and I am having no such luck.

Where would you consider moving to?

Might try searching LinkedIn for “Deloitte Campus Recruiter Boise” if you'd consider Idaho for example, search for all the big4 in areas you'd consider living. Reach out to some of these people in places you'd consider living and see if they'd be receptive to an initial phone interview or discussion. Maybe a quick mention that public accounting opportunities in Montana are lacking and you're looking to relocate and wonder if they can give some advice on getting in at their location. Mention a tiny bit about yourself, your degree, GPA, and that you got a 90 on REG, sat for BEC and have the remaining sections scheduled.

You might need to upgrade your LinkedIn account to send a lot of emails, but the $25 fee might be worth it

@acamp Thanks for the reply. My husband and I are only really considering the west. Tried the south, hated it and I grew up in the midwest and don't want to go back. We are Rocky Mountain lovers. Right now we are thinking Southern Oregon particularly Medford. I am also considering going to Salt Lake City where my sister lives to snag up a tax internship for tax season just so I can bring in some income while gaining more experience in public accounting. I made up a Linkedin account today so I'll try getting some contacts on there. I just wasn't sure about that whole recruiting thing when you are not a student anymore.
