    Hi all,
I would like to hear experience of being an internal auditor. I work for a regional CPA firm as a staff auditor. I am thinking it is not really for me. Since we have limited staff so we have to utilize our staff by doing multiple things. I currently work on financial audit (of course!), ERISA audit, single audit and dipped my toes in tax a bit. It is definitely a great experience and I want to stay here for one more busy season. I am thinking about internal auditor but dont know much about. I have 2.5yrs of experience in industry (general accounting) and 1.5yrs of audit experience.

I am curious to see what are similaries and differences between external and internal auditor. I’d appreciate your thoughts and thanks in advance.

Internal is a little political. But it depends who the Internal audit dept reports to. Reports to BOD, much better. More independent.
Pay is not great, but it's mostly 40 hours a week. Ur not always on the road & u see the family.
It's little boring, but ur experience in external translates to twice the time in internal.
It's easy to learn after external. In external every location is diff & they do things diff.
