    Hello everyone,

I am new to this group. I work for the Fed. govt right now as a full time auditor. I plan to pass all CPA exams by July of this year. My supervisor is a CPA and will sign-off for the experience. We don’t deal with tax or financial statements. I want to start doing CPA bookkeeping/tax prep on the side once I get my license. However, I do not have the experience and I Want to start getting the experience so I am “ready to go” once i get my license so….where can I get the experience? I have tried contacting several small CPA firms in NYC area, offering evening and weekend help free of charge but seems like no one needs help. I was considering maybe contacting H&R block to see MAYBE they need someone part-time so this way atleast i get tax prep experience. Your thoughts please? TYIA

So you have no experience in tax and want to have your own tax business? Unless you're charging very little id say good luck getting clients and keeping them.

Pass the CPA go get a job at an accounting firm for 3 years then start building..

You know nothing right now…NOTHING about tax, or how the software works, you're setting yourself up for lawsuits and major issues.

Right now just focus on Gov audits and learn auditing, pass the exam and start applying to smaller firms again next year. Prove value to them about auditing and sell yourself.
