    Hello Everyone!

I am a Michigan resident who is currently in the process of sitting for the CPA exam. I have an offer from a small health insurance broker as a benefit analyst and I am wondering if this experience counts for the CPA experience requirement.

The owner of the insurance brokerage firm is a CPA. Firm has about 20-30 employees. Will this experience count for the CPA license?

Note that in Michigan you do not need to work for a public accounting firm. You can get the experience working in industry (finance, accounting, ect)…..

The owner would just need to verify your 2000 hours – Michigan Compiled Law 339.725(4). Your law includes qualified experienced as financial analysis, rightfully so. So you're good to go but double check with your Board of Accountancy.

PS: If possible, tell the owner that you also wanna help out in areas of accounting (of course considering segregation of duties.). It's good to have various skills in case you wanna do something else down the line.

    CPA - Since 2015
    CISA - Smashed 2012
    CIA - Passed 2015
