Exit ops for forensic accounting?

For any forensic accountants or CPAs involved in investigations/disputes, what are your exit opportunities?

I am currently in a forensic accounting role and wondering what my possible exit opportunities are. Hopefully there are a few current/former forensic accountants on here!

I've been at a forensic accounting firm for almost 8 years and am thinking about the same. I may end up moving to another firm to do similar work but I'd love to move into a more risk/due diligence role because I'm sick of traveling and unpredictability of our job. I thought I had it bad with 80 hour weeks in audit, forensic accounting can be worse!

I wish I had more advice but I'm in the same boat.

    FARE--78
    AUDIT--88
    REG--81
    BEC--75

    DONE!!!!

@rachenyc: a risk or diligence (M&A) type role can involve as much travel, if not more. And M&A is notorious for unpredictability – I remember how the Big 4 transactions teams always kept a suitcase in the office in case a deal came in. I have 7 years in forensics, so we are in very similar situations.

@toughkitty: forensic accounting is very interesting, and I was asking about exit ops more theoretically. No matter where I work, I will always wonder where I can go from here.

I suppose we can always go into compliance at bank (which sounds dull), or transition into risk advisory at a services firm (which is more appealing to me, except for the travel). But I was hoping a former forensic accountant could share their experience leaving the field.

Forensic is my fantasy. That's on a back burner for me until after my daughter graduates high school (and my son moves out)…no good can come from an unpredictable schedule like that right now.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.
