E-mail HR for position?

So I applied for a position through my alma mater’s career site and I had seen the position also advertised on the firm’s website, which said to e-mail a careers@cpafirm.com your resume so I did that as well.

This was about 2 weeks ago and today I found out that I have a common connection with the head of HR at the firm. Would it be appropriate to send her an email? The school website said that they were accepting applications til 10/31. I feel like bringing up that I have a common connection will really help my chances but I don’t want to come off as being too persistant.

I should note that I’ve also made some adjustments to my resume since I had originally applied.

I always considered persistence a good thing. If I were you, I would either call the HR person directly, if you can get a contact number, or ask your mutual contact to introduce you to him/her. Emails are easy to ignore/delete.

    REG - 85
    AUD - 99
    FAR - 89 - w/ NINJA Audio and Blitz
    BEC - 91

Using Wiley - books and test bank - 6 months - all 4 first time

Thanks! I realized my post is a little unclear. That isn't the actual e-mail address. It's just an example of what it looked like.
