I thought that this would be an interesting topic to discuss. What is your Dream job and where do you want to eventually end up at the end of your career? Big 4? Private? Tax? Audit?

I’m just starting out in the beginning of my career and don’t really have an end in mind yet. I think it would be interesting to get others prospective on the topic.

I do have a dream job, sort of. I always wanted to work for some sport club. Too bad this particular staff accountant position is a dead end for me

I started my career in Big 4 public accounting for 4 years, which after that last busy season, I was shattered……and then….which I ABSOLUTELY highly recommend for EVERY AMERCIAN….

I transferred with the Firm to Grand Cayman on a 2+ year contract…..I worked in the Cayman Islands calculating NAVs on off-shore Mutual Funds that paid full time at 37 hr work weeks. The British even drink a beer or wine over lunch – completely expected and the “norm”. PLUS, The Beach EVERY EVE for a swim, yoga, sunset, “shrimp on the barbi” as all the non-American expats would say” and now I have friends / colleagues scattered all over the globe just offering free places to stay when visiting and also great work opportunities if I so ever choose. Just need those three little letters c.p.a. to open Pandora's box!!

I am doing not-for-profit accounting but wanted to do tax in big 4 when i graduated.

Audit works as well, it's just the Big 4 that interests me a lot!

@CorpCPA: Simply the fact that you said (wrote) y'all…….. I adore you already!

I live in Tulsa and the Brits, Africans, Australians, Canadians, Kiwi's, etc….all are convinced and called me “the Southern Bell”. For the life of me I couldn't convince them, my “accent” wasn't truly, truly southern. I'm Midwestern, not from the South. Some of the most hysterical conversations were over how to pronounce words in all the different cultures.

We must be certified now to be hired, the laws became quite strict after 9/11…… but yes, I transferred with Deloitte, but have recently been contacted by steppingstones.com (?) a placement agency in Cayman. Once your certified, the market is abundant…….and the pay is tax free, even tho it's expensive for tourists = locals learn the places to eat and even get discounts….I came back to US with large savings account! I'm seriously considering going back next year, it truly was a wonderful place to live and work.

@jstubb- Ha! I like to think I do not have a thick southern accent, but I am from Mississippi. I was vacationing to St. Thomas with my husband and some friends and we had another group approach us in the bar and ask us what state we were from. They had placed bets on where our “accents” were from.

Looks like I may have found some new motivation to pass this thing. HA!

…….as I sit here and continue to procrastinate instead of doing more MC!

When I graduated, I had no clue where I wanted to end up; however, as I read people's accounts of their jobs on here and started working in accounting, I decided that non-profit accounting was probably where I wanted to end up because work/life balance is very important to me, so my dream became at least Controller and in the non-profit sector. This month, I started as Controller in a small non-profit college. So, now my fingers are crossed that it is all that I've dreamed, but I'm glad to be in the non-profit world of 37.5 hour official work weeks! (Occasional longer hours – I worked 8 hours one day this week! – but nothing like my prior jobs in private and public.)

I want to be a professional Board Member. Just attend 4 or 5 meetings per year, go to some corporate retreats, collect a few hundred thousand for my troubles…
