Hi all, I have been an accountant for about 5 years now. I work at a small/medium size company. I work in the tax department specializing in high net worth, individual, trust and estate. I actually like it and find it interesting. But I HATE accounting, write up work, Bookkeeping, etc. I majored in accounting in college for the job security and opportunities. My first job out of college was at a firm specializing in high net worth and consulting. I did ONLY 1040 work. I liked that in the sense that I never had to do anymore debits/credits, and actually got very good at my job. Left that firm for a new position as a supervisor/reviewer which is where I am at now. I only worry that I may be limiting and pigeon holing myself into a small niche. I honestly hate “accounting” work but like I said the 1040/high net worth is interesting to me and I enjoy it. I feel a little insecure at times when I do have to occasionally do accounting work and I am lost. Should I be concerned? Maybe leave accounting?? Are the long term and career prospects good for 1040 managers ?Thanks!
