Does anybody happen to work in IT Audit or Governance Risk Compliance area?

Does it make sense to have a CPA & CISA? Well, the obvious answer is, of course it can only help a candidate because they have more certifications. But, does it really make sense to really get both?

If you work in IT Audit for public accounting firms they will prefer the CISA initially but once you make partner or director you need the CPA to sign off on stuff. That's what I've been told.

I'm guessing you are considering the CISA after you are done with the CPA. I don't work in IT Audit, But I know that the CPA does not give you any background in IT. If you want to give yourself some respect as an IT Audit professional on paper – assuming that you dont have experience in IT audit or an IT degree, I would go for the CISA.

I think that it makes a lot of sense.

A guy in my office has a CPA and CISA, and another has a CPA and a CITP. In both cases, they use their knowledge to examine electronic systems and their controls.

REG - 90 (08/2014) - Study Time = 6 days
FAR - 89 (10/2014) - Study Time = 9 days
BEC - 83 (11/2014) - Study Time = 4 days
AUD - 89 (01/2015) - Study Time = 2 days

Final score released - 2/4/15
Application mailed - 2/5/15
Licensed CPA - 2/12/15

I work in IT Audit in a big4 and currently working towards my CPA. After that, I will work on the CISA. Most people in the IT Audit and GRC side have their CISA since they came from an IT background and might not have the required credits to sit for the CPA. I do know people who are in my practice with both designation or have one of them and are working towards the other.

It would make sense for me to get both since my job is both IT and Audit. Having a CPA definitely gains more respect, and putting CISA with it would be just the cherry on top. Hope this helps
