I am not officially a CPA yet, waiting on my license, but I love my job and could not have gotten it with out committing to the CPA. 🙂

    NYS CPA License # 113563
    CIA: Done as of 2/15/14

Training for a half marathon post studying!

#1: I'm not done yet but it will be an awesome personal accomplishment more than anything else.

#2: CPA is not required at my firm, however most people there are either 1) lawyers 2) lawyers with LLMs 3) lawyers + CPAs or 4) CPAs or 5) CPAs with masters degrees. So I think it will count come promotion time.

#3: I delayed the exam for a long time for numerous reasons, one being that I thought it just means that you can sacrifice the time to pass an exam and will not make you better at your job. WRONG!!! I learned a lot from all the studying and even though I will likely forget a lot of the material, I definitely won't forget the amount of sacrifice it takes to get through this exam and what it takes to succeed.

Probably not an answer to the question, but I remember again why I'm doing this for.

#4: I might get a t-shirt that says CPA on it (if I mean WHEN I pass and get the license) and rock it a bar while celebrating.

I work in internal audit at a large research university. What I love about my job. That is a loaded question. I love the flexibility, the ever changing audits, the broad area we audit, the ability to design my own audits, the work life balance is fantastic. I also love that I am making a difference and that I have the ability to work with students. I could go on and on…but its really a fantastic job!

I am glad to hear that. my dream was to work for big 4. actually I have a personal appointment with a pwc recruiter. problem is, because my paper was late for one class, professor won't accept it and I will gat an F. my gpa will go below a 3.0 and now I am depressed. this is my third f.

should I even meet the pwc recruiter. advice please.

You've asked a lot of good questions here this week, but this is the first time you've mentioned YOUR dream which is interesting. Are the F grades that you mention in accounting? Try to figure JUST your accounting gpa separately from your overall gpa and spin it that way if it's favorable. Frankly the big 4 could care less what you got in sociology. At the very least if your grades are a discussion point (which they shouldn't be if your social skills are favorable) spin them in a positive way “I'm working hard on time management skills now”.

I'm curious though. You've mentioned NYPD. Also an incredibly awesome career, but a very different personality type. (I'm a darn good accountant but don't have the mental or physical stamina for a PD job). Where do you think you'd “fit” better?

This is the first legit site I found where I am able to talk to accountants and people of this major so I'm glad I found it. truth be told dream would be an exaggeration, but rather a great interest. This is because once you have them on your resume, many opportunities become available. 2 classes are for accounting but I do have legit reasons, if they care. the nypd would be more of my dream job. But they said they would call me in one year. the reason I am doing.accounting is because of a back up. but this semester I Truly learned to make my education top priority. Especially having a long.talk with my father. so while I am doing this I now want to do my best. Cause the nypd might not work out if I mess up in tbd exams. Sorry for long response. Another thing, if I do pursue nypd I would still want to get CPA. after all I majored in accounting and put time into it.

I missed your question. I am not sure where I would fit. I think NYPD more, simply because I was born in NYC, lived here my whole life, and love it.

But because I have the opportunity to go to college, I took it.

And I finally realized my mistakes and will take school seriously
