Do internship hours count towards CPA licensure?

I just had a someone tell me last week that internship hours would not count toward licensure. I interned for a public accounting firm in Audit for 10 weeks, and I was hoping that at least SOME of the hours I worked there would count. Anyone with any knowledge on this? Thanks.

I would say they do, might depend on the state.

I know someone in MO that used their 3 internships to fulfill the hours requirements for her license.

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 94
    REG - 86
    BEC - 86

Check your state. Here in CA part time hours count there is a a conversion calculation to see how much full time it converts to as full-time.Please check with your home state. Every state is different on this.

CA CPA - All because of the journey listed below
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    FAR - 53('10), 8/25/12 79 PASSED!
    REG - 66('11), 69('12), 12/06/12 77 PASSED!!
    BEC - 58('10), 74('12), 01/05/13 77 PASSED!!!
    AUD - 43('11), 66('12), 69('13), 74('13) 7/29/13 85 PASSED!!!!!

Do your hours start accumulating once you've passed the test? I've always been a bit confused on how it works. I started working in public accounting in September — so does that mean by next September I could get my license?

Again, this might be state specific. But in CA your hours do not have start after you pass. I for one will be counting most of my hours before I passed.

Hmm, well, where I live (Delaware), the professional experience requirement is 2000 hours. The thing is that only the hours you accumulate AFTER receiving your BS degree count towards that requirement. I've had 2 internships doing accounting work right under CFOs in undergrad, one of which turned into a part-time job and I was working 30+ hours per week for a year and NONE of that counts toward my experience requirement. I'm insanely pissed off about that, and if your state is anything like mine, then you may be just as pissed.

Btw, it took me about 30-40 minutes to finally find the section in my state's accounting board rules that actually spelled out experience requirements. Plan on spending a ton of time trying to comprehend your state's nearly un-understandable (that should be a word) code / rules.

    DELAWARE

AUD: 74 (7/2014) 76 (11/2014) PASSED! USED YAEGER AND NINJA
BEC: 73 (9/2014) 76 (2/2014) SO FAR SO GOOD! USED NINJA AND WILEY
FAR: Will take after tax season (can't wait)
REG: Cue overly dramatic impending-doom music (will take in 2014)

@ Zach That's probably why I haven't really been able to find it before. It's so confusing!

I'm in PA too. I know that you can start accumulating hours before you pass the exam, but I'm not sure about the part time hours and how that works.
