Hi everyone,
I graduated college last year with an Economics degree, and have been enrolled in an extensions/certificate program at a different university. I have been going to every recruiting event and I have had very good interaction with one of the Big 4 recruiters so far. She recognized me everytime I saw her (and I made sure I talked to her at every event), greeted me by hugging, told me she would find a way to get me in, blah blah, and I was really happy to hear that. Then, last Monday she called me to say that I couldn’t go through their recruiting this fall because I already have a bachelor’s degree. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. What’s more confusing is that my friend was in the same situation as me, but he went to last year’s recruiting event, got the job and is starting full-time in fall at the same company.
What do you guys suggest that I do? It’s too bad that I didn’t start accounting during undergrad, but it’s also too late to grieve about that — I’m so much more motivated now, most of the day I think about my career and where I want to be, I am young and willing to put in those long hours, I am interning in corporate accounting right now, and I think it’s not fair that I am written off just because I am out of college, when some undergrad students aren’t even sure WHY they are applying for an auditor position. I’m not throwing all my eggs into this company though, I have been contacting other national/local companies too and plan to start with CPA exams by taking FAR in late August. Has anybody been in my boat?! Thank you for your time and good luck on your exams!
