I work in internal audit at a Fortune 500 company. After becoming a CPA, my boss said Congratulations to me and that was it. Is that normal or would you expect a raise? I make 49k right now so it’s not like I’m raking it in already.

    FAR - 89
    AUD - 97
    BEC - 83
    REG - 71, 85

I was in public accounting and got a $3,000 bonus, no raise though.

I worked for a private company for 1.5 years and left for seminary. I came back to the accounting profession and passed the CPA exam and the same company gave me an offer for 15K more than I was making.

NIU CPA Review Correspondence is awesome!

I passed all four sections on the first attempt

Nope, no raise/bonus for me. Just a “good job,” and a pat on the back. I did not expect a raise because I am already compensated well for my level.

@samissmiley–you need to change employers or change jobs. How many years of experience do you have? I know of Senior Accountant positions within industry that will pay close to $20k more per year than you're making.

Does your company have a set compensation period? At my current company you can only get a raise effective Jan 1. My boss who has been here 30 years and has only seen 2 exceptions to the rule. Is it possible that your next raise during your next compensation period will reflect you passing the exam?

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

I work in governmental accounting now, and my position will be reclassified to a CPA level position after I pass. I'll get a good raise…probably around $5,000. I took a pay cut to go into governmental, so this would get me back to where I was in public (with much better hours!).

When I was in public accounting, the single-office firm I worked for would reimburse the cost of all four exams (after you passed them all) and increase your salary by $2,000.

    A 85 11/12/12 (74 on 1st attempt)

I work for a private company and didn't really expect anything other than having options in case my job ended. The company paid for my review materials and are reimbursing me for each test I pass. I also just got a promotion and a 20% raise that I may have gotten without being almost done with the exams. However, I think that showing the initiative to get this done weighed heavily in my favor.

What would you expect at a small CPA firm (20-25ish employees)? Similar salary to the original poster
