I’ll try to make this nice and short. I thought I aced REG and had most likely failed FAR. Turns out I had gotten an 85 on FAR and 73 on REG. Unfortunately, I jumped the gun on my resume and had said that I had passed REG and left out the results of FAR when speaking with recruiters… this has taught me a very valuable lesson to say the least. Now, I have 5 interviews already confirmed and they all think that I had passed REG and FAR. I plan on taking REG early April and I imagine most of these interviews will take at least a month. I know most of the companies I’m interviewing with require at least 3 rounds of interviews.

So, should I come clean or do you think it’s OK to let this one go? What are my chances of getting caught in this white lie? I WILL pass it in April, so help me god. Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated.

Bad move. If you want the job, you should say it was a typo. I would bring a corrected resume and say it was an oversight on your part. I think we all know you pretty much have zero chance of getting the job if the first words out of your mouth are basically, “I lied, but I'm sorry. Please hire me!” You could always say that and go to the interviews for experience (and punishment!). But you are very, very unlikely to get hired. However, if it were me, I would either say it was an error or not even waste my time with the interview unless you just want to squirm. Apply to new places with an honest resume.

By the way, I know you probably feel bad enough, and I'm not trying to rub it in, but who in the world preemptively says they've passed a section of the exam?! Especially your first section. I thought I aced FAR, and was already planning in my head about how I would tell my coworkers about my 95 on my last exam! BUT, I never said it out loud, and good thing too, because I barely passed. Never count your chickens….you know.

I wouldn't say a word about it. I'd definitely learn from the experience and move on. I seriously doubt that they are telling each individual employer which sections you've passed, probably saying that you passed 2 of 4, or whatever.

I'd update the resume and hand it to them saying “Here is an updated resume.” In my opinion, if you highlight it, it will lose you the opportunity.

Fess up. It's only fair they know the truth when determining if you are a good candidate for the position and culture.

You keep referring to this as a “white lie” or “foolish”. You misrepresented yourself on your resume. You were purposely misleading in order to look better and hopefully land an interview. This isn't a white lie. It's a lie lie. A real lie. What you did wasn't foolish, it was wrong. And you probably thought of that while putting your resume together and decided to do it anyway. It's a resume on steroids.

It doesn't seem like you have learned an important lesson, because you are still making it out to be a small mistake. A typo. Something you can hopefully get away with. I say come clean to your recruiter and ask them what you should do.
