I work under VP of my company, and he is pretty much the accounting department (Sales 15 mil). And I am a staff accountant, that also do pretty much everything too, eg A/R, A/P, Invoicing, Quick books, ADP, Bank Recon, etc. etc….

My VP just passed CMA exam & planning to sit for CPA exams.

Q1) I want to know, if he can sign-off me off before he is CPA, because I think I do pretty much everything that is related to accounting.

Q2) And if he become CPA by December, 2015. Can you sign me off right on December or Do I have to wait until December 2016?

What state? I know in AZ, for experience, it has to be a supervisor that states you performed specif tasks while working for him for at least one year. If they are a CPA, great, if not, they need to include a resume and their job summary. A reference letter from an actively licensed CPA is also required, but I haven't researched it to see for how long they must be active, if there is a requirement.

In KY, your supervisor doesn't have to be a CPA, but an actively licensed CPA must sign off on it. So, in my situation, my boss is not a CPA, but his former partner is, so when I have completed my experience requirement, my boss will call up his former partner and tell him I've done my hours, and his former partner will sign it for me, and it will all be legal and complete. Or I'll talk to the CPA next door (we have 2 totally separate accounting practices right next door 😛 ) and I'm pretty sure he'd be happy to sign it, too, cause he knows I'm here at work everyday and is quite personable. So, in KY, you can't have a non-CPA sign off on it, but the CPA doesn't have to be the supervisor. In KY, there is not (to my knowledge) any requirement as to how long the signing CPA has been a CPA, simply that s/he is.
