CPA Exam, my new job, and expiring NTS…

So, I have been working temp on a project for an organization. I interviewed for a permanent position and was hired. My first day in my new position is 8/27. I am scheduled to take FAR on 8/31. My NTS expires 9/13, so 8/31 is the last day before it expires.

I am pretty sure I am not ready for FAR. I didn’t intend to work this summer, but this temp opportunity was too bad to pass up. I haven’t been able to put the time in that I needed to. I was going to take it anyway, but now I am wavering.

I could most likely get the time off. It would be, well, INSANE for this particular organization not to let me have the time off to take the CPA exam. So, that isn’t the issue. Really, it comes down to this:

Why should I take a morning off, drive 45+ minutes each way, during my first week of my new position – especially for something I am pretty sure I won’t pass? At the same time, why wouldn’t I take advantage of the opportunity?

I am torn. What would you do?

I wouldn't take the time off from work. I would either take the exam a day or two before you start or on a weekend. If you really don't think you have any shot of passing, I would just skip the exam. In short, try to take the exam, but not at the expense of asking for time off from your new job.

I agree to go on and try and take the test. If you reschedule you are going to have to pay for it again since your NTS is going to expire. Who knows . . . you may get lucky and pass!

Seeing as you have nearly 3 weeks, study as much as you can and take it. ready ^ is right – you might pass!

    I passed in 2012!

    BEC - PASSED - I'M DONE!!!
    AUD - PASSED (finally!!)
REG - PASSED (Twice - lost credit first time)
    FAR - PASSED!
