Changing a position

If you intern in one field for a summer and for whatever reason you find that you don’t like it, how easy is it to switch to another field when starting full time the following year? If the firm doesn’t let you switch, would it be a red flag to other firms if you interview for full time in a different field than what your internship was in?

Internships can be great for testing the waters. Chances are no matter what field you interned in, you likely gained some type of skill (Excel for instance) that you can expand upon in your next position. It definitely would not be a red flag to recruiters…all that matters is that you are interested in the position and have some sort of professional job experience on your resume.
