Hey all, some highlights from my resume:
-Go to a pretty big state school in the city recruited by all Big 4 & regional firms, graduating w/ 150 doubling in accounting and finance next spring
-3.65 overall & 3.59 accounting gpa
-Interned w/ a large global PR/marketing firm downtown in their AP department last year (in the spring, was mostly just typical intern work, filing/scanning…).
-Interned w/ a very small (like 6 people) CPA firm during busy season doing both some audit and tax (individual/trust/non-profits) this past spring and will continue part-time over the summer.
-Worked a part-time job on campus all throughout school, with a leadership aspect to it (longest tenured in my position, trained lots of new guys, etc… got good stuff to talk about in interviews with it hah)
-No real heavy involvement in clubs… but I do have an honor society I joined on my resume, along with a little volunteer experience (volunteered to review local HS students’ personal financial plans, nothing major)
Last recruiting season, I got some interviews, only 1 Big 4, but didn’t get any offers aside from the small firm I interned with… who luckily enough extended my internship over the summer, albeit part-time since they aren’t as busy. Recently I interviewed for other internships with some large industry players and a national CPA firm downtown, before anticipating getting this extended offer for my current internship, but didn’t get any offers from that.
So I’m a bit worried for the fall when it comes time to look for FT jobs, because it seems I have a fairly decent resume, but have still gotten denials. And yeah, I am aware it is competitive and interviewing is a big part of it (though I have had lots of practice w/ interviews and got what I feel are good answers to typical questions…).
Basically, just kind of wondering what I can expect going into this recruiting season. Kind of want Big 4 audit, but understand that could be tough since I didn’t intern with them, so I’ll be applying to regionals, some industry positions, banks maybe as well, trying to keep my options open (and hopefully have options to begin with).
Thanks!
