    So, My job offers incentives to get certifications…

    CPA 5k per year

    CFE 3k per year

    I can only have one incentive though, I was wondering, would it be worth it to take the break from CPA studying to try to get my CFE or just stay focused on CPA??? I guess i am really asking, is the CFE something that you could get with like a month of studying or is it more difficult than that?

    My advice for you is to finish out the CPA first; even moreso now because you have already begun the CPA journey. It appears to me, from experience, much more widely recognized and valuable in even some financial fraud-related fields. It should really be your base credential. Then, when you're done with the CPA and getting bored every night because you're so used to studying (this will happen), start on the CFE. I started with the CFE only because I had a break from public accounting for a while and I had prior forensics experience. It can be done in a span of 1-2 months. Having both is obviously a huge plus. Are you interested in eventually moving into forensic accounting?

    No, not really, I just work for my state legislative audit division, and figured, if its going to be up to another year before i finish my cpa, then I might could get that CFE incentive offer in the meantime to have a little extra income

    CFE is a piece of cake..Focus on CPA. I deliberately allowed my CFE certification to expire this year because;

    (1) I am in Finance, don't really use it

    (2) Can't afford to pay $230 every year to renew my membership

    (3) To get my CPE is difficult due to not in Fraud or Audit related position

    (4) Having the certification made me to think I have something whereas It can't stand when CPA's are talking.

    (5) You dont really learn anything having CFE certification, good for the raise though but you will still end up thirsty for CPA certification.

    I will recommend to pay the price and focus on the CPA, just my $0.02

    2014 experience..No more excuse, this is it!
    I CAN'T KEEP CALM UNTIL I BECOME A CPA
