So some background information: I just recently graduated from College and have a job in the Governmental Sector helping with Audit Remediation. This is not the job I envisioned myself with, but due to my GPA and lack of internship experience this was the only offer I got. The upside is the pay is good, and they are paying for my CPA designation. After I complete the CPA I plan on trying to get out of governmental accounting and into Public for a few years, and ultimately ending up in private. My concern is with getting a job in Public Accounting, will my lack of experience still be an issue even with my CPA?

Exactly what type of audit remediation are you doing? Which branch of the gov't?

If you're working with taxpayer audit remediation then you probably will have an in at a firm that handles lots of audits.
If you're in another area of governmental audit, then you can probably land a sweet job at a firm that does gov't audit functions.

DHS, I'm contracted with the USCG. On paper, we're helping draft Standard Operating Procedures for processes not covered at the Audit level. We're supposed to be helping with the transition to a new accounting system. However, due to delays on the transition the SOP effort is what we're tasked with. In practice, I do a lot of nothing. The work is super slow, I typically just study all day.
