    Hello,

I am a CPA with light experience 1-2 years. I like the idea of audits. Being mid 40’s, I am considering Internal Audit but not sure which industry to get into. I have heard banks are good for starters but maybe not long term. Third party IA firms and maybe public. I have limited time to climb the ladder and am considering going for the CIA if IA is working out. Maybe a designation in CRMA along with CIA.

I am soliciting opinions and ideas because I need to start making a bold move into a side of accounting that interests me and I keep coming back to audit. External auditing may not fit my lifestyle at this point and IA is growing considerably. I would appreciate any suggestions and feedback.

Also, one of my ex professors told me to check out Business Analytics because it involves some management (maybe a good fit for my age) and some consulting.

    Thank you.

Consider looking into your state to see if they have openings in their legislative audit department. Or your nearest university system for an internal audit department.
I interned with my university's internal audit while I was in school. I learned a lot, and would have put in to work there full time if there had been any openings there when I was ready to launch my career. They were pushing people towards the CIA route rather than the CPA, but I think they would happily have hired someone with a CPA.
And I have a friend who hired with our state legislative audit, and loves it.

Government internal audit is really good. If you are in a good university system, then doing IA with them can be really good too. University systems will give you exposure to a variety of workflows and models depending on whether the entity is non-profit, state funded, federal funded, grants, etc.
