Career Guidance – Please Help

    I am looking to break in into BIG 4, or public accounting. Please help, any thought is appreciated

    I am graduated last May 2013, accounting and fiance, gpa 3.93 (a little less than state school, it’s a city school but all big 4 recruit there)

    Passed 3 of 4 of cpa exam, awaiting result from the last one

    Pass CFA level 1 (not like it matter at this point)

    Still need 16 hours (to fulfill 150)

    Still need 1 years experience

    Working at a real estate company as a corporate accountant (not qualify for public accounting)

    Require sponsorship (only for like a year due to delay in my immigration status, complicated stuff and long story)

    what should i do to improve my chance to get into big 4, should i take class to fulfill 150, should i take master degree, should i work part time for tax services. Anything will be much appreciated, thank you

    AUD (12/06/2013)- 75
    FAR (01/04/2014)- 84
    REG 69, 74, (waiting for 11/23/14)

    Well, based on your post I think it's safe to say that your communication (written at least) could use some help. And if your written communication is an indication, then I also think it's safe to assume that verbal communication might be an issue.

    If you did go to a well or moderately recruited school with high grades then I think your main issue is a lack of networking on your part.

    My advice is to work on your networking skills, pass the CPA, attend as many networking events aa you can, and try and break into a small to mid-size public accounting firm. However, if you're the high-risk type, then you could go back and take a semester of graduate classes from your alma mater to get access to on-campus recruiting.
