    Hi,

I just got my non-attest license this year and I am working in a private company as global accountant. A small firm offered me a job and their specialty is government audit. I will get my attest hours if i am employed for 2 years continuously. My dilemma right now is my company wants me to stay for more money however, i have been wanting to experience audit to advance my career. My long term plan is to go back in a corporate world and get a managerial position. What scares me too right now is i’m not sure if i am willing to give up my fix schedule which is from 9:00am-5:00pm over my dream of becoming an auditor. And on top of that, I’m planning to have a baby soon because I’m already 34.

I will need some good opinion from those who are working/worked in an auditing firm.

    thank you.

My advice would be stay in private. You already have your CPA license. Doing government auditing might make it harder for you to get non-government jobs. Also, it is kind of awful… IMO. I worked at a firm for 2.5 years that specialized in GOV and NPO audits. GOV audits were generally a lot of compliance and then the funds and the fund statements. Ugh!

Global accountant sounds pretty cool… Can you talk to someone above you about what or how they think you should work your way up into management?

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

I agree with Steph AV. Stay in private especially if you're gonna have a baby soon and eventually see yourself going back. I've worked on plenty of government audits and they do tend to be kind of shittier than the commercial audits. And also with gov't audits you tend to travel a lot to some more remote areas depending on your firm and where their gov't clients are this could change but I definitely don't think the traveling would work well for you with a baby.
