Career Advice Needed – Look for new job or Grad school?

Long story short I was let go from my previous employer after being there for 11 months. Mainly due to communication issues and misunderstanding.

Right now I’m on the fence of going to look for work since I just need 1 more months of work experience, but this might be a pleasing in disguise bc I do not need to pay for the CPEs and renewal fees. However I did apply to practically every single firm and receive no offers, plenty of interviews though. But all the firms I did receive interviews for were the smaller firms and from my experience I do not want to deal with that type of situation anymore.

So now I’m at a cross road and thinking if I should go to grad school and try to get into a larger national firm.

Is this just misguided sense of directions? I’m fairly young, mid 20s, however I do have a mortgage so I’m tied down somewhat to the southern CA market.

How about finding a job AND going to grad school? It takes time AND money to get admitted….what's the plan for “in the meantime”?? And getting a grad degree doesn't guarantee a better job in the future….

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

This is a good book – I'm going through it right now.

Skip down to “For the Skeptics…” and it discusses pros and cons of business school.

Well I'm looking for a job. I applied to every firm for the last 6 weeks. Had plenty of interviews but nothing really pan out. I dont feel like working for a smaller type of firm due to my previous experience. I know this is kinda bias, but giving 1 or 2 people a lot of power can become abusive and dangerous and I dont feel like going through that situation again.

With grad school there are loans and I currently have unemployment income and a bit of money saved up to last me at least another year.

If you don'y like small firms, you may want to try state agencies and THEN keep looking for a better job…. Student loans sound like a great idea, but then you have to pay them off for the next 10-20 years…..I think you'd be better off finding a job, getting your CPA license and then look for a better opportunity.

No job is perfect….but with this attitude it may be hard to find “a” job….. but that's just my opinion….I personally hate office politcs, etc. but I also have a mortgage to pay + student loan, so gotta give up my dream job for now…
